About
The Federation
ສະຫະພັນໝາກຮຸກລາວ — Established 2012
We are the national governing body for the game of chess in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, recognised by FIDE and the ASEAN Chess Confederation.
Our mission
To develop, promote and govern the practice of chess across all provinces of Laos; to grow participation among youth and women; and to support Lao players on the international stage.
A short history
Chess has been played informally in Laos for decades, but the Federation was formally constituted in 2012 to coordinate national activity, sanction tournaments and represent the country abroad. The first official Laos National Championship was held in Vientiane in 2013 with 28 participants.
In the years since, the Federation has welcomed five affiliated clubs across the country, sent national teams to the SEA Games, the ASEAN Chess Championships and the FIDE Chess Olympiad, and run an annual calendar of more than thirty sanctioned events.
